Theodore Athanasius Madrid is a PhD Candidate at the Van Andel Graduate School of Statesmanship at Hillsdale College. His dissertation, “John Carroll and Religious Liberty,” examines the political thought of America’s first Catholic Bishop, analyzing the compatibility Carroll saw between Catholic political thought and American liberalism, especially regarding religious liberty. Broadly, his work explores the intersection of American constitutionalism and political philosophy. Madrid holds an M.A. in Political Science from Hillsdale and a B.A. from the Pontifical College Josephinum. He currently serves as an adjunct faculty member at Holy Cross College, where he teaches courses on American Government and the U.S. Congress.
