Dr. Thomas W. Smith is the Anne Quinn Welsh Endowed Chair and Director of the Honors Program at Villanova University. Dr. Smith was the founding chair of the Department of Humanities at Villanova. He received his undergraduate degree from Georgetown University and his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame. Three time recipient of the Martin Manley Distinguished Teaching Award in Villanova’s Political Science Department he was also awarded Villanova’s Lindback Award for Teaching Excellence in 2001. He is the author of Revaluing Ethics: Aristotle’s Dialectical Pedagogy (SUNY Press 2001). His teaching and scholarship focuses on the history of political thought and the intersection of faith and public life. His work has appeared in such journals as The American Political Science Review, The Review of Politics, Communio, Logos, Religion and Literature, The Journal of Politics, and Polity. He is currently writing a book entitled, The Catholic Moment in Higher Education. He lives in Media, Pennsylvania. He and his wife have three children.
