Abigail Biggins is a high school senior from Boston, Massachusetts. A John Witherspoon Fellow and writer on bioethics, she examines the philosophical foundations of modern medicine and the moral life. She is an editorial and research assistant to Professor Charles Camosy of The Catholic University of America and a member of the ethics core for Tufts Medical Center’s AEGIS trial on advance care planning for patients with dementia. She previously interned in the neonatal intensive care unit at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Her independent research explores how Western philosophy can inform modern healthcare and what utilitarian medicine means for its future. The founder of Carnergia, a project developing an extended-release formulation to improve treatment access for patients with primary carnitine deficiency, Abigail hopes to draw on her experience in scarce resource allocation and family advocacy in a future career in pediatric bioethics.
